The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering momentum.

Recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
