The Game UN:Me: An Cerebral Horror That Blends Silent Hill and Among Us Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs digital showcase revealed a number of intriguing future games, but one especially has captured attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience seems to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the suspicion-driven heart of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive game where a young woman harboring multiple human souls inside her must escape from a maze of the psyche," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Mind

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of high school age. Within her exist four separate souls, each with unique anxieties and motivations. These entities can seize control at will, unleashing their deep-seated terrors upon her suddenly.

Judging by showcased footage, much of the narrative takes place within a creepy hospital, though additional clips depict the protagonist navigating a abandoned church.

An Environment of Personal Horror

"What makes you fearful of? What causes you uncomfortable?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. Authority figures. Elements that seem trivial to other people can activate a deep instinct inside us. This game delves into that idea — fears that are unique to every individual."

The central gameplay loop involves managing whichever soul surfaces at any given time. However, these identities will change involuntarily during gameplay. While exploring, every persona's fears become amplified and assault the girl one after another. As the persona changes, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Eerie Visuals and a Deadly Choice

At first glance, UN:Me displays noticeable visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is populated by orderlies all sporting the identical visage, with disturbingly broad grins. Figures in the lobby have enormous blooms where their necks are. Floral motifs are an ever-present theme, contrasting natural beauty with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a singular twist. Players must determine which of the four souls inhabiting the protagonist is the "real" one. "Each of the souls asserts that the body is rightfully them," notes a creator. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is real."

Once players have deduced a soul is an impostor, they must eliminate it. However, since every entity can deceive or hide the reality, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the true [soul] with your own hands," the narration suggests. "The final entity standing might be a fake. In any case, your decisions are irreversible."

UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed release date, but it is available to wishlist on digital storefronts.
