Iran Reports Assault on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, During Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and ongoing assault targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area close to the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any impact is unclear and the United States has yet to issue a statement.
Missile Defenses Activated
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - said they have shot down missiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had intercepted several missiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was targeting US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on the Islamic Republic carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That US-Israeli operation - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on locations associated with the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to revolt against the government.

In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military said it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses responded to the missiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a several projectiles," the statement continued.
Officials reported wreckage fell on a populated district in Abu Dhabi, causing some material damage and fatalities.
The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
