A budget proposal that would terminate the record-setting government shutdown in US history is advancing toward the House of Representatives for a critical decision on the coming day.

On the sixth week of the budget deadlock, congressional members are returning to Washington to determine if they will approve a Senate package that would fund federal agencies for 60 days.

Republican leadership voiced optimism the funding measure would clear the lower chamber, despite their tight margin. But Democratic leadership vowed to oppose it.
