Fast bowler Gus Atkinson Adds to England's Fitness Concerns.

'Serious blow' for England as Atkinson goes off with a hamstring injury.

The pace bowler increased England's injury problems upon exiting the playing area early on day two of the fourth Ashes Test against Australia.

Atkinson felt a problem in his left hamstring after the final ball of the fourth over on Saturday.

The England team stated the 27-year-old reported "discomfort" and was to take time off the field to undergo evaluation "during the day".

The final Test in this Ashes battle at the SCG begins at the end of the week.

The visitors have already lost key quicks one seamer with a knee problem and another paceman with an abdominal strain on the current trip.

A replacement bowler was called up to provide backup.

The seamer had a tough time during the first two matches, managing only three wickets.

He was dropped for the Adelaide match, before being recalled for the fourth Test as Archer's replacement.

The county bowler improved at the MCG, claiming a couple of wickets in Australia's first innings, then making 28 as a batsman being one of only three English batsmen to reach double figures.

After bowling one over in Australia's second innings, he returned on Saturday morning and removed Scott Boland taken by the wicketkeeper.

Yet, towards the conclusion of his spell, he bowled a slower ball to the batsman and promptly felt for his hamstring.

Gus Atkinson was brought back for the fourth Ashes Test after being left out of the third.
