Democratic lawmakers Criticize Trump After He States They Should Face Capital Punishment

Lawmakers from the Democratic party demonstrated anger after former President Donald Trump accused a coalition of Democratic representatives of being "betrayers" and declared they should be detained and sentenced "by death" following their posting of a disputed video.

The Recording That Provoked the Controversy

The video footage, released on Tuesday, features six Democratic elected officials who in the past acted in armed forces or security roles.

"As we did, you all took an oath to defend and support this constitution," the representatives declared in the 90-second video. "And right now, the dangers to our governing document don't only come from overseas, but from right here at home. Our laws are clear, you can decline unlawful commands, you can decline improper directives, you should reject improper directives. No one has to carry out commands that break the law or our founding principles."

Donald Trump's Furious Response

The clip reportedly trigger a furious response from the previous commander-in-chief.

On later in the week, Trump posted on his preferred platform: "It's called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these turncoats to our Nation should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In an additional publication, he stated: "This represents really serious, and Risky to our United States. Their words cannot be allowed to remain. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a third publication, he stated: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, subject to punishment by DEATH!" He also shared a statement that said: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Party Leaders Respond

Following Trump's remarks on Thursday, House Democratic leader published a unified statement denouncing the statements.

"Political violence has no position in America," they wrote. "Congress members who were featured in the video all acted our country with great national pride and honor. We strongly condemn Donald Trump's appalling and risky threats of violence against congressional representatives, and appeal to GOP representatives to forcefully do the same."

The Democratic leaders also said that they had been in communication with protective services "to make certain the protection of these members and their families."

"Donald Trump must right away delete these radical digital publications and recant his dangerous discourse before he leads to violence," the statement stated.

Representatives' Firm Answer

The representatives who participated in the video also published a response.

"We serve as veterans and security experts who love this nation and swore an pledge to protect and uphold the founding document of the United States," they declared. "That oath is permanent, and we aim to honor it. No intimidation, pressure, or promotion of aggression will prevent us from that fundamental obligation."

"The most revealing aspect is that the former president deems it punishable by capital punishment for us to reiterate the legal requirements," they continued. "Armed forces members should understand that we have their backs as they carry out their pledge to the constitution and responsibility to follow only proper directives. It is not only the correct thing to do, but also our duty."

They stated: "The entire nation must come together and censure the president's calls for our death and partisan aggression. This is a moment for principled stance."

More Governmental Responses

The Opposition leader also denounced Trump's remarks and posted on online networks: "We must be absolutely clear: the President of the United States is calling for the capital punishment of government members."

He stated: "This is an clear THREAT. Every Senator, all representatives, the entire nation – without partisan consideration – should denounce this right away and without qualification."

The Republican House speaker defended Trump's assertion that the Democrats had participated in "sedition", labeling the video as "highly unsuitable", commenting: "It is very risky, you have prominent officials of the government advising troops to defy commands, I think that represents unprecedented in the nation's past."

The Republican leader also reportedly informed the press that in what he read of Trump's messages, Trump was "defining the offense of rebellion" but that "legal experts have to examine the terminology and decide all that."

White House Response

During a executive branch meeting on later that day, when asked by a journalist, "Is the president want to execute congressional representatives?", the White House press secretary replied: "Absolutely not."

"Let's be clear about what the former president is reacting to," the spokesperson declared. "You have current representatives of the federal government who coordinated to orchestrate a video message to members of the American armed forces, to active duty service members advising them to defy the president's legal commands."

She said: "The purity of our military relies on the hierarchy, and if that system is compromised, it can cause people getting killed, it can cause confusion, and precisely what these elected officials ... are basically encouraging."
