Canada's Blue Jays Secure World Series Showdown Against the Dodgers
George Springer contributed to the Houston Astros securing the World Series in the 2017 season.
Toronto's Blue Jays reached their initial Fall Classic following 1993 by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the ALCS.
Trailing 3-1, Springer smashed a three-run blast in the seventh inning, leading the Toronto squad in the majors to a 4-3 series win in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the Dodgers, who are the defending champions, in the forthcoming World Series.
"I'm thrilled for this squad, Toronto, Canada," commented Springer, a star of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 World Series. "What an unbelievable moment."
The veteran has now connected for 23 October home runs, making him third all-time after Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).
"It's hard to imagine anyone else anywhere that I want up in that situation except for Springer with his October magic," noted Schneider.
Seattle's team, who had led the series 2-0 and 3-2, are still the only MLB franchise never to appear in a World Series.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson said "there's no question that it's going to sting" following his team's loss at Rogers Centre, but praised their efforts this season.
"It's a special team. Sadly that we ended up on the losing end of this one," he added.
Toronto secured the title on both previous visits in the early 90s, and are set to host the Los Angeles in game one on the upcoming Friday.
