Arne Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Loss

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's natural for questions to be raised about his position after a further convincing loss against the Dutch champions.

The Reds endured their 9th loss in twelve matches, representing the team's worst run after being relegated in 1953-54.

They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult night at Anfield.

“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received a lot of backing from management,” Slot stated.

“It would be great to change things and get a victory obviously but when you're in a managerial role and underperforming then it's expected that questions are asked.”

He added, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”

Talks with The Board

When asked to provide details on his conversations with the team officials, Slot revealed:

“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they back me.”

He mentioned, “Through standard conversations we have I feel the belief. But I've not talked to them after this defeat so far so let’s see.”

Recurring Failings and Squad Response

Slot highlighted familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the team's situation.

“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones stated.

“It’s just unacceptable. I don't need to wait to consider it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”

He continued, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched this club since I was young.”

“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a period like this with performances like these.”

Jones finished, “But we still have the emblem on our chest. And until that badge is taken away, we’re always going to fight.”

“Our aim is to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, prove once more what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the best team in the world.”

“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
