Sarvarov held the position of the head of the armed forces' department for training operations.
The committee stated that one theory under investigation points to the potential involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. So far, Ukraine has offered no public response.
Site of the Incident
Personnel have been dispatched to the scene, which is said to be in a south district of the metropolis.
Accounts indicate the detonation took place in a parking area near a residential building.
Series of Incidents
Since the start of the full-scale conflict in Ukraine, a number of Russian military commanders have been targeted within Moscow.
This new event follows other high-profile incidents, such as:
- General Yaroslav Moskalik was died in a vehicle explosion in Moscow earlier this year.
- General Igor Kirillov died in late 2024 when a explosive concealed on a scooter was set off from a distance.
While a source from Ukraine earlier linked Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such assertions are not formally acknowledged as a matter of standard practice.
Hostilities has increasingly seen shadowy operations moving into the center of the Russian capital.
The investigation into General Sarvarov's death remains active.
